Battery Electric Vehicles

Battery Electric Introduction

A Great Choice to Charge Up Your Drive

Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) run entirely on electricity, and offer instant acceleration, quiet operation, smooth performance, and tailpipe emissions-free driving. They’re just one of the ways Toyota offers drivers a choice of Electric Vehicles (EVs), along with hybrids and plug-in hybrids. All made with the reliability Canadians depend on from Toyota.

Toyota Reliability and Excellent Warranty

Toyota BEVS are in it for the long haul, thanks to legendary Toyota reliability. That’s why our BEVs are backed up with an 8 year/160,000 km warranty.

Environmental Commitment

You can feel good about buying from Toyota. We have a robust battery recycling program, and our goal is to be carbon neutral by 2050 as part of the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050.

QUICK RESPONSE TORQUE

Instant torque, smooth acceleration and quieter motors.

TAILPIPE EMISSIONS-FREE DRIVING

Reducing CO2 emissions by going fully electric is one way we can help lessen greenhouse gasses and lessen our impact on the environment.

EASY TO MAINTAIN

Without a combustion engine or transmission, BEVs have fewer mechanical components. The regenerative braking in these vehicles reduces brake pad wear, further lowering service and maintenance costs.

CHARGING

Power Up for Peak Performance

Charging an electric car is simple. Just plug it in. At home, at work, or at any public charging station. Battery Electric Vehicle charging times will vary depending on whether you are using Level 1, 2 or 3 EV charging.

2 To reduce risk of fire, injury, or property damage, only (i) purchase/install a safety certified EV charger with voltage/current that is vehicle compatible (ii) use a licensed insured electrical professional to install charger (iii) install and operate in accordance with charger manufacturer’s instructions/warnings and applicable laws.

3 Charge times are estimates only and can vary significantly based on numerous factors including external air temperatures (colder temperatures or extreme heat), charger type/condition, accessory use, and battery level and condition. DC charging times will increase as temperatures decrease, with significant increases possible at temperatures approaching and below freezing. DC Fast Charging for AWD vehicles should be limited to three sessions per day, regardless of external air temperatures. After three AWD  10-80% charge sessions, DC Fast Charging over the next 24 hr period may take longer and be less effective.  Public charging experience will vary based on charger type and charger specifications (Level 2 or DC Fast Charger with 150 KW or above) and other factors including vehicle and environmental conditions. Charging times can also vary depending on the actual charging rate realized by the charging station, which can be highly variable and often below the maximum stated rate of charge. Toyota does not own or operate public charging stations and is not responsible for their availability or performance. Always plug-in/charge vehicle in accordance with Owner’s Manual.

FAQs

Still Have Questions? Here are the Answers

What Kind of Range Do BEVs Get?

Toyota electric vehicles have excellent range, that can easily manage your day-to-day driving and beyond. For example get up to an estimated 468 km for 2026 bZ XLE AWD under ideal conditions

4 NRCan-estimated 468 km total driving range for 2026 bZ XLE AWD models when vehicle is fully charged (100%) and operated under ideal driving conditions and at external air temperature generally between 20-30 degrees Celsius. This information is intended for comparison purposes only, and is not specific to any individual vehicle. In sub-ideal conditions, actual range will decrease significantly depending on driving and charging habits, driving speed, outside temperature, weather, accessory use, how/where you drive, cargo load, vehicle and road condition, and other factors. Battery capacity also decreases with time and use which will reduce range. See www.nrcan.gc.ca and Owner’s Manual for details.

5 Public charging experience will vary based on charger type (Level 2 or DC Fast Charger) and other vehicle and environmental conditions.

6 The Platinum ECP Service Agreement for the bZ covers normal factory scheduled maintenance for three years. 24-hour Roadside Assistance is also included for the length of the Agreement with unlimited kilometers. See Toyota dealer for details and exclusions. Valid only in the continental North America.

RANGE

Reliable and Confident

Range Anxiety? It’s a real thing! But not to worry – when it comes to range, Toyota has you covered so you can get wherever you need to go with confidence. The average Toyota EV provides 350-450km of driving per day, which is plenty considering the average Canadian drives just 60 km per day. There are also things you can do to ensure that you get the range you require, like preconditioning the battery – particularly in colder weather.

A few things you can do to maximize EV range:

  • Precondition your battery, to bring it to temperature in colder weather
  • Plan your journey carefully, and identify charging stations along your route
  • Set a charging schedule
  • Keep your tires properly inflated
  • Use good driving habits, like watching your speed and using cruise control
  • Keep your electric vehicle properly maintained
  • The Toyota App now has a feature that connects your BEV to Apple Maps, which can be used for efficient EV route planning
